Born on July 12, 1984, Beverly moved from New York City to Seattle when she was two and began playing the flute at the age of seven. She studied for eleven years with Heidi Ehle, learning by ear through the Suzuki method. At sixteen, she began teaching the flute, and she continues to mentor students.
Beverly is the winner of the prestigious National Flute Convention 2007 Masterclass Performer’s Competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also a concerto competition winner with the Seattle Symphony Youth Orchestra, the University of Puget Sound, and the University of Santa Barbara. In each instance, she gave acclaimed solo performances.
Beverly obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound, where she studied flute with Karla Flygare. She also completed a four-year program at the Northwest School of Healing, from which she emerged a Reiki master. Beverly uses her understanding of her energy system to prepare herself when performing.
Sharing her music puts Beverly in closer touch with her own spirituality. Recalling a Mozart concerto solo, she said, “My heart was open, and it was as though a light was shining through. I almost felt as though my body floated, and the music flowed effortlessly through my fingers.”
Beverly is currently enrolled in a two-year master’s degree program at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she studies with Jill Felber. This year she will act as Jill Felber’s teaching assistant in which she will have the opportunity to teach college level flute students as well as flute ensembles. Her musical interests include classical, New Age, folk, jazz, Indian, and Native American flute.
